The shelf price hides the real cost. A 108-pack and a 40-pack can't be compared until you divide by the number of nappies, so here is the price per nappy and the formula price per 100g at seven stores.

How much do nappies cost per month in Australia?
At about 180 nappies a month (6 a day), a month of nappies typically costs $68 to $121 a month depending on size, from the median price per nappy across the stores we track. The cheapest packs we found were about $31 a month.
What are the cheapest nappies in Australia?
By price per nappy, the cheapest pack we found was Mamia Size 1 Nappies Newborn Up to 5kg 28 Pack at $0.17 a nappy. Supermarket own brands and Aldi are usually cheapest; big brands are cheapest in their largest packs.
How much does baby formula cost?
The median stage 1 (from birth) formula costs $3.96 per 100g ($35.67 for a 900g tin). The cheapest was $1.44 per 100g.
Where do these prices come from?
We check online prices at Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Chemist Warehouse, Priceline, Pharmacy Online and Baby Bunting. Price per nappy is the pack price divided by the number of nappies in it. Prices change often, so check the store before you buy.
